Christmas Art Challenge
Christmas is almost here and my children are so excited! The presents are wrapped and under the tree, my menu is made, and I have personally consumed dozens of stollen bites and Lebkuchen (a German Christmas cookie).
For the first time in my art career, I made Christmas Art! I can’t believe I’ve never gotten around to doing this, but this year I dove in by making a decision to do every prompt in #Jehanestwelvedays Art Challenge. Jehane is an art agent located in Brighton, UK, and agents some of the leading illustrators of our day.
Jehane offered the prompts two week earlier to those who signed up for her email list. During the time before the prompts went live, I cleared my calendar and got to work. I found that I could relate to many of the prompts, and they were so inspiring, thus creating art to go with them was a joy! I’ve shown you the prompts below, along with my color palette (which I use for more than Christmas art).
When the challenge began I was so excited I could hardly sleep! Waking up meant an instagram feed full of beautiful art from creatives from around the world. It was amazing to see how people interpreted the prompts in their own way and style. Not only was I inspired by what I saw, but I made many new friends by chatting and commenting throughout the challenge. It was a great way to grow my instagram account, too.
Although I made many different versions of some of the prompts, in my gallery I am showing you my favorites. I realized that I really like creating greeting cards and would love to print some of these and see them come to life!
If you joined in, what did you like about this challenge? Did you find the timing difficult? I know I wouldn’t have been able to manage the prompts if I hadn't gotten them earlier, as the Christmas season is full with school activities, parties, concerts, field trips, and shopping. Did you enjoy a particular prompt over others?
My absolute favorite was the Festive Fruits prompt, even though I didn’t think it would be. I love food and cooking and was surprised at how my art turned out for this prompt.
Mary Christmas to all of you! Enjoy time with the ones in your care, loving them and cherishing each moment together! Blessings!
